The following news is from Kantipuronline (Feb 15, 2007). It tells that Dharan is badly affected by the migration of ex-British Gorkha Army who were residing in Dharan. Like Dharan is ex-army 's post service Residence in Eastern Nepal, Pokhara is a well known place for ex-Army in Mid-Western Nepal. Pokhara's deverlopment and current economic achievements can be mostly attributed to these British Gorkha army, without them Pokhara would not have flourished in such a short time of 50 years. The quality housing in Pokhara is also because of affordability of British Gorkha army. The land cost has risen in these years, and the people, especially, Brahmin, Chhetri, Newars, Muslim, and other castes who never got chances to enjoy direct benefit of being a British Gorkha Army, also got an indirect share through the expenses made by British Gorkha Army in Pokhara in different forms.

If you look at 50 years back and now, Roads, education, schools, hotels, and other entertainment centers, they have substantially changed. All these stuffs can be attributed to mainly to ex-BGA, but the recent migration trend seen among ex-BGA might affect the future of Pokhara because these ex-BGA might want to sell their property in reduced price, and that might have repurcassion in other areas of biz in Pokhara. Someone needs to research, and find a solution towards retention of ex-BGA. Try to pursuade them to retain their fixed properties in Pokhara, and think of ways bringing them back frequently as a tourist, and also as a investor in different high quality biz e.g. tourism, entertainment, golf, soccer, music, and basic to higher education. If we can offer, quality education, the kids of these ex-BGA might want to return to Pokhara for higher education (in Engineering and Medicine), and pay the fees that might be substantially cheaper than in England.
